Frequently Asked Questions
Who can join ASHRD?
Any student of Texas A&M University, Blinn College or RELLIS may be members of ASHRD, however our membership is catered towards students with a major or minor in Human Resource Development.
Do I have to pay to attend events? Participate?
No, you do not have to pay to participate in ASHRD. While banquet invitations are reserved for members who pay dues, and certain perks only come from active membership, we will never turn you away if you want to join us for a meeting or event.
How much time should I designate if I want to be an active member?
Membership is often considered a low time commitment, with a heavy reward. Being an active member means you have obtained 10 member points within a semester. It is very reasonable to conclude that if you designated about 1-3 hours of your time to ASHRD every 2 weeks, you will achieve active member status.
Can I get involved mid-semester?
Yes. You can become involved with ASHRD at any point within the semester. While our deadline for dues may have passed, and you may not be able to attend our banquet and get active membership, you can still participate even if you weren't able to get involved near the beginning of the semester.
What type of events are there?
ASHRD hosts several events, such as Biweekly General Meetings, Professional Development Events (Job Skills Seminars, Headshot Events,) and fun socials. General meetings typically feature an HR professional from a spotlighted company and attend as our guest speaker!
How do I become involved in leadership?
If you are interested in getting more involved with ASHRD, then you should consider applying for an open officer position. If an officer is stepping down or graduating, about half-way through the semester officer applications will open. All applicants are treated fairly and will receive an interview with the current leaders of the organization.
